Regularly scheduled tours
are offered throughout the year. These are designed for paddlers
who have already received some level of instruction. They are
not lessons, instead they are each focused on some aspect of
our area’s history, wildlife, geology or culture. As with our
courses of instruction, we provide meals on full-day tours and
can provide any equipment you may need.
Mystic River Tour
A day-long tour of the
area surrounding Mystic Seaport. We’ll get a great view of the
last of the square rigged whale ships from our boats as well
as getting a tour of the ship from one of the seaport staff.
Pre-requisite:
Intro to Sea Kayaking
Call
for available dates.
Branford Harbor Tour
We’ll put in at Branford
Harbor and tour the rocky coastline west of Branford, visit
idyllic little coves and find a nice spot for coffee and muffins.
Pre-requisite:
Intro to Sea Kayaking
Call for available
dates.
Norwalk Islands Tour
We’ll put in at Norwalk harbor and head out to the islands. These islands are rich in bird life, and are home to one of the largest egret rookeries on the east coast. We’ll learn about the area’s historic oystering industry and discuss the pro’s and cons of modern aquaculture. Lunch will be on Ram Island looking across to Long Island.
Pre-requisite:
Sea Kayaking II
Call for available
dates.
Old Stonington Tour
We’ll put in at Barn Island and head out towards Napatree, a great place to observe and discuss the havoc created by the great hurricane of 193x. We will then cross over to the lighthouse and village of Old Stonington, tour the old lighthouse and walk through this historic little fishing village. Then it’s time for lunch and to head back east along the marshes (visit the gull rookery, watch your head) to the Barn Island take out.
Pre-requisite:
Sea Kayaking II
Call for available
dates.
Faulkners Island Crossing
Faulkner’s Island is home
to an historic lighthouse commissioned by Thomas Jefferson.
It is also home to a breading colony of endangered Rosseate
Terns. The terns are the subjects of an on-going research project.
Although the island is closed to pedestrian traffic, the sea
kayak offers a unique opportunity to quietly observe these lovely
creatures. Nearby Goose Rocks will give us a chance to stretch
our legs and have a good, first “big crossing” for the intermediate
paddler.
Pre-requisite:
Sea Kayaking II
Call for available
dates.
New Moon Tours
Look at the water in a
new light. New moon tours of the area’s marshes can be the most
rewarding. Many species that breed, hatch and hunt in our local
salt marshes are by far the most active and the least shy on
the night of the new moon. See and hear black crowned night
herons hunt in the marsh. Feel peanut bunker hit the bottom
of your boat while trying to escape the maw of a hungry striped
bass. Witness the “hatch” of millions of sandworms and listen
to the tails of fish pop the surface in pursuit of them. One
of our favorite tours for wildlife enthusiasts.
Pre-requisite:
Intro to Sea Kayaking
Call for available
dates.
Full Moon Tours
If you ask people wh spend
a lot of time on the water what they find most remarkable about
it, they will often tell you that the sea never looks the same
twice. Come have a look at the water by moonlight; it is easily
one of the most dramatic ways to see our coastline.

Winter Tours
Sea Kayaking is a year
round activity! Let us show you how to stay warm and safe on
the water after the power boaters have called it a season. We
can provide the training and equipment for winter paddling,
including dry suites by Kokatat©©. Winter provides some
of the greatest opportunities for viewing wildlife, including
seals and dramatic species of birds that winter along the CT
shoreline and waterways. Most local people never see these fantastic
creatures the way you can in a sea kayak
