Machias' goal is to introduce people to the wonders of nature.
Our methods are based on the belief that students learn quickly
when they receive expert instruction, feel comfortable, are
allowed to discover for themselves what works best and have
fun!
Join Machias Adventures for one or more of its series of classes designed to introduce the possibilities of coastal kayaking and river canoeing whether you are a beginner or simply want to hone your skills.
Experience the joy of kayaking and canoeing with an emphasis
on safety, good fundamental instruction and fun. The physical
challenge will be appropriate for those of average fitness.
Each class will be limited in size to allow attention to individual
instruction and safety. We have already scheduled some dates.
Additional dates can be made available upon request.
Machias Adventures has been leading canoe adventures for over
25 years. Tom Samose, Machias founder and trip leader, was certified
by the American Canoe Association in 1985 and has been leading
canoe trips ever since. He has canoed most of the magnificent
rivers of the Northeast as well as many in the West. He loves
nothing better than sharing his experiences with fellow enthusiasts.
This year Machias is pleased to introduce you to Compass Coastal
Kayaking, LLC. The founder and lead instructor is Thomas Henninger,
a sea kayaking instructor and guide trained by both the British
Canoe Union and the American Canoe Association. He has led trips
in Alaska, Nova Scotia and Africa, as well as throughout coastal
New England. Thomas’s experience as a commercial fisherman and
as a field naturalist make him a well-rounded interpretative
guide for the New England coast as well.
